I love capturing once-in-a-lifetime moments in the Smoky Mountains, but my favorite has to be photographing couples who are eloping to Gatlinburg! There is just so much to appreciate about an elopement. Your story, how your officiant connects with you, the florals, and my personal favorite, the dress! As an elopement photographer I have seen lots of non traditional wedding dresses for non traditional weddings. Let me show you what I am talking about!

Black Wedding Dress

I have heard that black wedding dresses have become more popular, but I hadn’t seen one until just recently! A black wedding dress may just feel like a gown, but paired with a black veil and complimentary bouquet, you can feel utterly bridal in this look. I personally Like how this couple paired the brides dress with the grooms black suit for a sleek and dramatic look.

Off White Pink Wedding Dress

This has been one of my all-time favorite non traditional wedding dresses that I have seen as an elopement photographer! This off-white gown has pink hues that scream fairytale. The lace bodice and thin straps give the look a very delicate and feminine vibe. I absolutely love it for a mountain wedding! And the way the sky complimented the bride in this session is just heavenly!

High Lows & Capes

This bride brought out all the stops to create a unique and non traditional look for her wedding attire. Her wedding dress was a high-low with a very traditional lace applique that flowed over the ivory gown. The skirt was higher in the front to show off her boots that matched her groom! Then as the sunset she added an emerald green cape to to dress. The entire look was very elegant, spunky and fantasy inspired.

Red Wedding Dress

This may just be the most non traditional wedding dress of them all! A red gown for a Gatlinburg elopement at Ely’s Mill is a dramatic and bold choice. This bride was show-stopping and stood out beautifully against the green foliage in the National Park. I have never seen such a bold wedding dress, but I will say it was stunning!

Short Wedding Dress

One of the more common types of non traditional wedding dresses is a short white dress. Usually these have similar fabric and style to traditional gowns, just shorter. Sometimes you will find them in tea-length, while others are just above the knee. I think these dresses are perfect for elopements, especially at a courthouse!

Removable Skirt

I am not sure how non traditional this next dress is, but I love how unique and fun it is, so I have to include it! This bride wore a mermaid-style gown with floral appliques and a deep v-neck. What made the wedding dress special was the removable skirt cape that was attached to the waist of the gown. I love how she was able to remove the skirt when she wanted a more sleek look, as well as how she was able to have movement and dimension with the skirt in other photos. this was phenomenal gown!
