It is a Hallmark movie-worthy town with cozy cabins, twinkling lights, and magical mountain views. Everything you could dream of for a mountain elopement, plus snow! Here’s what you can expect for your winter wedding in Gatlinburg, along with a few tips to make the most of your day!
Winter Mountain Views
Winter in Gatlinburg is pure magic. Usually from late December through February you can expect about nine inches of snow. So not so much snow that it prevents travel, but enough to add something special to the landscape. It’s the perfect backdrop for your wedding photos surrounded by frosted evergreens, with possibly snow-capped mountains in the distance. Whether you choose a high-altitude overlook or a quiet, wooded spot, the views will be nothing short of breathtaking.

Another perk of having a winter elopement is that it is the off-season for Galtinburg! So it will be easier to book your vendors, especially venues. You may even be able to get an off-season rate! With a slower pace, you can really embrace a more peaceful wedding day.
Gatlinburg Winter Weather
Let’s talk weather. Winter in Gatlinburg can be a bit unpredictable, but that’s part of its charm, right? Daytime temperatures usually hover between the 30s and 50s (Fahrenheit), so it’s chilly but not freezing. Evening temps can dip below freezing, making it a great excuse for a stunning faux-fur shawl or a classic wool coat to complete your bridal look. While snow isn’t guaranteed, it’s not uncommon, especially in January and February. Even a light dusting of snow on your big day will add a dreamy, ethereal vibe. Just be sure to keep an eye on the forecast and have a backup plan in case the weather throws a little surprise your way.
