Fall in the Smoky Mountains is unbelievably beautiful. So it is no wonder that year after year, I have dozens of couples reaching out to me to plan and photograph their Gatlinburg elopement in the autumn months. Here are some of my tips to elope to Gatlinburg in the fall.
Gatlinburg In The Fall
Gatlinburg in the fall is absolutely magical! The Great Smoky Mountains are covered in a kaleidoscope of reds, oranges, and golds. With that cool, crisp autumn air, seasonal activities and cozy cabin vibes. It’s the perfect time for leaf-peeping honeymoon wedding photos and honeymoon hikes! Downtown is a mix of local crafts, comfort food, and friendly faces. Which always makes me think of a Hallmark movie of cute rom-com book! Gatlinburg in the fall is a dream, so let’s talk about eloping there!
Location Is Everything!
If you choose to elope to Gatlinburg in the autumn, plan for an outdoor ceremony. You will not be able to find a venue that is as stunning as the mountains filled changing leaves! Although every location will be filled with autumn colors, some are more impressive than others. I recommend the Foothills Parkway for endless rolling hills of color. Or Greenbrier for lush woods and a water feature.

Permit Requirements
If you’re planning to elope in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, you’ll need a special-use permit. Make sure to apply in advance, as spots can fill up during peak leaf season! However, if you book your elopement with Peacefulside Elopements, we will handle all of the permits and park permissions for you!
When To Elope To Gatlinburg In The Fall?
Timing is everything if you want to get those vibrant fall colors in your wedding photos. Mid-October is peak season for fall colors in the mountains. On the flip side, it is also the busiest season. For a more quiet experience in October, consider an early morning or weekday ceremony. In addition, November still offers gorgeous views and a touch of autumn.
Gatlinburg Fall Weather
The best part of the autumn months is definitely the weather! It can get pretty chilly in teh mornings and evenings. But throughout the day it is absolutely perfect. You can expect sunny skies for the most part, however, there are occasional rains. Although they are not common this time of year, I will still be packing clear umbrellas just incase!
