How To Get A Gatlinburg Marriage License

Your Smoky Mountain elopement is basically here and you have it all planned out! The florals, the dress, even the vows. Your vision is about to come to life after months of planning! However, to make this wedding the real deal you need to obtain a Gatlinburg marriage license. Although this process may seem intimidating, it really is so simple. And as your Gatlinburg wedding planner, I am here to walk you through it!

Requirements

When you go to get your marriage license, you will need to provide some legal information. Here is everything you will need:

  • Both parties must be 18 years of age or older. Present a valid state driver’s license or a certified birth certificate to prove your age.
  • Present a social security card. If you are not currently a US citizen, then provide a valid passport.
  • If either party has been divorced or widowed, you will need to know the date that the divorce was final or the date of death.
  • There are no blood tests and no waiting periods! However, you must use the license within 30 days of issuance!

Location & Price

Obtaining your marriage license often takes only ten minutes! If you are a non-Tennessee resident the cost is $41.00, and if you are a Tennessee resident the cost is $101.00. In addition, you have three options on where you can go to obtain your marriage license in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Your marriage license can be applied for at:

Gatlinburg Marriage License

If you like to be prepared, consider completing a pre-application! The Sevier County Clerk’s Office offers a pre-application online. However, a Tennessee marriage license is only valid for 30 days from the date of issuance. So don’t jump the gun and apply too early! Afterwards, you will need to pick your license up from one of the three offices list above. If you are looking to fill out the pre-application, you can do so here.

Lastly, be sure to bring your Tennessee marriage license to your wedding ceremony! After your ceremony your officiant will complete the license and file it with the County Clerk. Then you will receive your official marriage certificate after the wedding in the mail. In addition, there are no witnesses required for you marriage.

Note: Online ordained officiant are not recognized.

Note for Tennessee residents: You may use a marriage license from the county that you reside in. Afterwards, the minister will mail in your license to be recorded. Depending on your county, you will either then be mailed your official marriage documents or will need to pick them up at your local county clerk. However, you will need to ask your local county clerk for the details, as every county clerk’s office is a little different.
